CONSTRUCTION
It is no secret that for the majority of the public, the thought of taking on a project that required them to knock walls down, move water lines and rewire elctrical systems is a very daunting and scary proposition. Then if you add all of the parameters one has to stay within - it gets even more daunting. Ofcourse if you top off that thought with the frightening reality of possibly becoming involved with professionals who are not what they say they are.... well then it becomes an impossible one.
All of those fears can all be put to rest by just involving yourself with the right professionals, who have a long vettable background. The bottom line is if clients do not look at the construciton process with rose tinted glasses and instead embrase the reality of construction, their concerns will be softened by the seeing it for what it trult is. The construction process encompasses the most changed on a project and has the most potential of any phase to turn an average project a into a amazing one. Vet your professionals and then trust them. They do this everday and it is their job.
SPACE PLANNING
Where to place the furniture? How to achieve the best flow to a space? How much of it a practicality? How much can you do add the perfect impact to your space?
A very famous interior designer friend of mine once said "If you really want to know where to place your furniture, well then have a party and whereever your guests pull the furniture to communicate with one another - then leave it there" I agreed with him to a certain extent and of course that does not apply to other rooms in a home but his basic point should certainly be considered when designing where your furniture goes and that is - you are designing for people to sit in these pieces and the proximity they are placed in relation to other pieces should have the human purposing element made a priority.
There are a few words that come to my mind when I am planning a space and they are sophisticated, unique, balance with a dash of drama. Read the architecture of your space and let that be your guiding light. Add a little bit of your personality to that equation and you can certainly acheive your desired goal. Bottom line - Do not fight the architecture and be sure to add somewhat of yourself in the mix for the best result.
Now for the great percentage of the public who can not "visualize" what it will look like, or cannot imagine by looking at a drawing, then acheiving that amazing result may be quite hard. A great way to get that visualization of the space that furniture actually takes up in your space is by mapping out the furniture by cutting out exact sized paper shapes and placing them in there proposed places - you can get a really clear insight into whether that proposed plan is really for you.
DEFINING YOUR
OWN PERSONAL STYLE
This section is for those individuals who feel that they do not have a grasp on what their own personal style is. It is also for those who think they know and then after being exposed by the interior design process, often change or reshape that opinion.
